Who Can Join?

Eligibility

The Mortuary Archaeology Field School welcomes students of archaeology, bioarchaeology, osteology, forensic science, and related fields, as well as anyone interested in historic mortuary practices. Participants will learn how to recover and document both archaeological contexts and human remains, gaining hands-on experience that complements osteology classroom lectures.

Please remember that this is a „field school” and will not solely focus on any one aspect of anthropology/archaeology but will cover many different areas. We try our best to give you a broad base of knowledge. You should also realize that this is an ongoing archaeological exploration and research project. Your work will contribute to the project as a whole and you will be expected to participate actively as a vital team member.

Who should apply

  • Undergraduate and graduate students who want field and lab experience in human osteology and mortuary archaeology
  • Recent graduates preparing for graduate programs, CRM work, or forensic careers
  • Professionals and lifelong learners who want structured, practical training in mortuary archaeology contexts

Experience

No previous field or lab experience is required. Instruction will begin with basics and build throughout the season.
